Just When You Thought Evil Won...

In our near history we have been very frightened by evil.  During WWII we were very worried that the Nazi empire would overtake the world and we would be ruled by evil.  As you know evil was defeated.  When communism was at its peak we were very worried that we would be taken over by evil.  That too fell apart.  The latest threat is Islam.  We are worried that we will be under the slavery and sword of this evil.  We can very easily worry ourselves sick.  We can get ourselves all worked up into a lather.

But we are forgetting something.  Just when you thought evil won, God comes forward and shows that He is in control.  In the Old Testament of the Bible we see one example after another in which things looked hopeless.  It ranged from large armies surrounding Jerusalem or the prophet Elisha. to facing the fiery furnace or the lion's den, but in a very short time, God fixed the problem.  So often the people of the Bible paniced and they thought evil won, but....

In our spiritual life we frequently look at Satan and think evil has won.  The truth is that Satan was completely and totally defeated when Christ died on the cross.  When Jesus proclaimed, "It is finished," Jesus crushed Satan's head.  Evil has not won.  Our sins seem so great and we are so weak.  Jesus took our sins from us and as our substitute paid for them all.  Every last sin is paid; none are missing.  Jesus gave us His perfect life so when God looks at us, He sees Jesus.  This is our peace.  This is our comfort.  This is why we don't worry that evil might win or has won.  Jesus has won.

To see an Old Testament example of "just when you thought evil won," go to II Kings 11:1-21.  There you will see the evil plan of a power-hungry wife of the king is carried out.  She rules for 6 years before her evil is destroyed.

Lord's blessings in your life!
